Functional approach
Matthew Bain, MD
Luke Nelligan, DO
Amy Mariacher, PA-C, AT-C
Sue Weaver
Having served patients in Indiana and its surrounding states for 18 years as a general neurologist at a large academic medical center both in the hospital and outpatient settings, Dr. Bain has chosen to transition to independent practice emphasizing a functional/integrative approach which borrows best applications across disciplines to achieve optimal health and wellness as defined by his patients. Dr. Bain’s expertise includes treating patients with headaches (including migraine and trigeminal neuralgia), seizures (both epileptic and nonepileptic), peripheral neuropathy (including sequelae of Guillain-Barre Syndrome and CIDP), radiculopathies, movement disorders (including Parkinson’s disease, dystonias and tremor), stroke (including post-stroke spasticity), concussion/TBI, dementia, multiple sclerosis/demyelinating disease and neurological complications of autoimmune illness.
Dr. Bain is skilled in the use of botulinum toxin to treat migraines, spasticity and focal dystonias (including hemifacial spasm, cervical dystonia, blepharospasm and writer’s cramp). He has also developed special interest in helping patients with spike protein-associated neurological illness. Having decided to split from a third party payer system in favor of a direct care model, Dr. Bain is excited to treat his patients’ neurological and general medical needs while collaborating with them on the outcomes they desire.
Dr. Bain earned his undergraduate degree in chemistry at Butler University and his medical degree at Indiana University School of Medicine. He completed his transitional intern year at Methodist hospital and his neurology residency and neuromuscular fellowship at Indiana University School of Medicine.
Dr. Bain’s passions include spending time with his wife and daughter hiking, playing games, chasing after their dogs, traveling, reading the Bible and playing lots of music (mostly on the stereo with some occasional noise on instruments).
“My goal has never been to tell my patients what they should do. It is critical that patients engage with their provider to achieve true health. My role is to help my patients discern the best options for addressing the root causes of their illness while helping them achieve symptomatic relief in the process. I want to be the kind of doctor that I would send my family to see.”
Dr. Nelligan brings tremendous depth of experience garnered throughout his 30 years in practice. His career has taken him through private practice, group practice and, most recently, his academic post where he has been training the next generation of doctors at Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine as the chair of family medicine. Having moved to Indiana from Philadelphia following medical school Dr. Nelligan has been committed to helping his patients achieve genuine health. Trained in family medicine with additional certification in palliative care Dr. Nelligan is uniquely gifted at helping patients through every season of life. His training in osteopathic medicine has taught him to recognize the importance of each individual’s body, mind and spirit while promoting the body’s inherent ability to self-regulate and heal. He has helped countless patients to achieve their health goals through emphasizing the value of preventive care and encouraging healthy lifestyles. He is equally competent in managing illnesses common in children and adults. He is skilled in both women’s health and men’s health. He has special interest in musculoskeletal conditions. Dr. Nelligan has expertise in osteopathic manipulative therapy which utilizes gentle musculoskeletal techniques to help the body heal itself.
After earning his undergraduate degree at Ursinus College outside Philadelphia and pursuing a masters in biology at Villanova Dr. Nelligan completed his medical degree at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM). After having served as chief intern at PCOM he completed his residency in family medicine at PCOM at City Avenue. He later earned a certificate in hospice and palliative care.
Dr. Nelligan is married to his bride of 28 years. They enjoy traveling with special interest in visiting their son in Nashville, TN. He is passionate about his faith and is a black belt in Six Sigma and TaeKwonDo.
“My approach to medicine is based on a simple principle emphasized by my mentor and friend, Dr. Angeloni, ‘Listen to patients and they’ll tell you what’s wrong.’”
Amy is a wife and mother to 4 children. She has worked in sports medicine with orthopedic, and cardiovascular surgery. In PA school she was exposed to acupuncture and later after a personal injury began exploring alternative methods of healing. She believes when you remove the stressors from the body, you give the body a chance to heal. Amy’s approach is to look at the emotional, structural and nutritional stressors. In the last few years, Amy has focused on myofascial release, Loomis enzymes for evaluating energy deficiency, sports medicine and overall wellness. “You are the owner of your health, we as a team want to help you be the healthiest you can be. If you are in pain and are not healthy, you cannot live life and do what is most important to you.”
